Maddie’s Therapeutic Approach

Maddie Johnson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a Registered Art Therapist. She works from a systemic perspective with a belief that our upbringing impacts how we function and orient ourselves in the world today. Maddie is relational in nature which is why she stresses the importance of comfort in the therapeutic relationship. Maddie engages clients with humor, empathy and curiosity.

Maddie is trauma informed and has experience working with attachment injuries. Maddie integrates mind-body and experiential approaches, knowing that healing is not limited to talking through something, its about moving holistically through the experience of something. Maddie encourages clients to check in with their bodies and notice sensations. Maddie believes therapy is an opportunity for someone to get to know themselves better and find strength in their voice.

As a Registered Art Therapist, Maddie utilizes the creative process to support self-exploration and promote play. Sometimes words are not enough, thats when Maddie may suggest engaging in the art process. And no, you do not have to be an artist to do art!
